De toepasbaarheid van teledermatologie bij de diagnostiek van gepigmenteerde laesies in de huisartsenpraktijk

(2010) Westerman, M.G.

Teledermatology is in use in Holland since 2000. Dermatologist find the pigmented lesions not suitable for teledermatology out of fear of missing malignancies. But because of the growing number of referrals to the dermatologist and the growing incidence of skin malignancies, teledermatology would be the answer for an optimal consultation for the diagnostics of also pigmented lesions.
In this study we investigate 2218 teledermatological consults, in regarding the quality of these consults for the pigmented lesions. The first outcome measure is the diagnostic accuracy, the agreement between the work diagnosis of the general physician and the diagnosis of the dermatologist as the golden standard. The second outcome measure is the referral advice of the dermatologists.
We conclude that the teledermatological consults are of good quality regarding the diagnostics of pigmented lesions. Also, the analysis of the given treatment advices from the dermatologist shows us that teledermatology is not an unnecessary step.
Based on our results we can conclude that teledermatology is applicable for pigmented lesions and that it can decrease the number of referrals for this group of patients.
